CSL 600 Animal Farm

  • Chapter One

    Animals plan to overthrow Farmer Jones, the owner of a large animal farm. The animals decide that they would be better off running the farm themselves, than having a human control them. Once the humans have been defeated, the animals vow to never adopt any of their habits. These become known as the Seven Commandments.

  • The "Seven Commandments"

    1. Animals must never live in a house.
    2. Animals must never sleep in a bed.
    3. Animals must never wear clothes.
    4. Animals must never drink alcohol or smoke tobacco.
    5. Animals must never touch money.
    6. Animals must never engage in trade.
    7. Animals must never tyrannize another animal.
  • Chapter Two

    The animals create a system of government called, "animalism", based off of the late, Old Major's wishes. Snowball and Napolean, along with Steeler, create the philiosophy and principles of animalism. The animals rebel,kicking Mr. Jones off the property in the process, thus, winning control of the farm.
  • Chapter Three

    Snowball gains the majority of control over the farm, his views always clashing with those of Napolean. Snowball establishes a number of committies which educate the animals. These committies were designed to teach all of the animals to read and write. Many of the animals are unable to read and remember the Seven Commandments, and reduces them to one, essential commandment, "Four legs good, two legs bad."
  • Chapter Four

    Mr. Jones returns to the farm, along with some other companions. The animals defeat them all, quite quickly, sufferring only one animal loss- a sheep. Mr. Jones loses his gun in thebattle, and the animals agree to leave it at the base of a monument, honoring that day in the Animal Farm history.
  • Chapter Five

    Mollie the horse is led off the farm by a human, offering her suagr cubes. Snowball and Napolean disagree over the construction of a windmill on the animal farm. Nine huge dogs chase away Snowball, and Napolean becomes the farm leader, by default.
  • Chapter Six

    Napolean hires a HUMAN trade consult, Mr. Whymper, who helps them learn to trade items, for goods and services they cannot provide for themselves.Thus, breaking one of the Seven Commandments, engaging in trade. Squealer convinces the other animals that there is no such rule prohibiting the use of money or the engaging in trade on the Animal Farm. He states that any animal disagreeing with this is a follower of Snowball, and would be considered a traitor.
  • Chapter Six

    A rumor begins to spread that the pigs are sleeping in the farmhouse in beds. When Napolean and Squealer are questioned about this, they state that the Seven Commandments actually read: no animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets. The windmill the animals build gets knocked down in a storm, and Napolean blames Snowball for this action, and orders a death sentence upon him. He gives a speech saying, "Long live the windmill, and long live Animal Farm!"
