Although Ky is trapped fighting in a war, he and his friends Vick and Eli escape the war and head towards The Carving. -
Cassia follows Ky's clues
Cassia knows that Ky is located somewhere in the mountains, so she follows the clues he left behind in hopes of finding him. -
Cassia and Ky reunite in the canyons
Eventually, Cassia finds Ky in the canyons and they are reunited. -
Cassia learns the secret behind the blue pills
Cassia takes some blue pills (pills provided by the society in order to survive) for nourishment. However, they make her extremely sick and she learns that they are actually made of poison. -
Cassia and Ky meet members from The Rising
When Cassia becomes healthy again, Cassia and Ky discover people who are members of The Rising, a group that is going against the society. Cassia wants to join them and although Ky is hesitant, he follows Cassia's lead. -
Xander and The Rising
Cassia comes to the realization that Xander may be a member of The Rising. -
Cassia searches for Xander
The end of the story wraps up with Cassia returning to the Society to look for Xander and attempt to work for The Rising.
