    Antonio José de Sucre
    • Born February 1795 and died in the year 1830.
    • A Venezuelan leader who followed after the Liberator Simon Bolivar.
    • He wanted to accomplish Bolivar's dream to unite the continent in order to have victory over tyranny and promote interior cooperation by means of "el caudillismo= military term for leader".

    -The 20th century was categorized for the strong battles fought between political parties and the hate between the bourgeoisie and the working class.
    • All of this hate was provoked even more after the assassination of this liberal political leader on April 9, 1948 and the chaos that followed called: ‘El Bogotazo’ until 1953. During these years the liberal political party was the most popular political party and after his death it initiated the disgraceful period of Colombian history.

    • This was considered to be the "Era of Violence" in Colombia and was categorized for the confrontation between the liberal political parties and conservative parties.
      • It was an era full of assassinations and repression. Many have called it “an inconclusive revolution”

    • The guerrilla groups perpetuated the Colombian Revolution causing strong persecution and massacres.
      • An example of an organization during this period was “Las FARC”. It stands for the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia and was founded by Pedro Antonio Marin also known as Manuel “Tirofijo” Marulanda Vélez.
    • They proclaimed much of the Marxist-Lennon beliefs and operate in the frontier regions of Brazil, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Venezuela.

    • Referred particularly to the actions committed by certain armed groups and the organization of the paramilitarism in the 1970’s with the purpose of fighting armed groups that were a part of the extreme left {FARC} and were involved in drug trafficking during the 80’s and 90’s.
    • They spread throughout diverse regions of Colombia with the cooperation of small industrial organizations who helped develop the United Self- Defense Forces of Colombia with the leadership of Carlos Castaño.
