Computer Timeline HIstory

  • Complex Number Calculator

    Complex Number Calculator
The Complex Number Calculator is completed. Bell Telephone Laboratories completed this calculator, designed by researcher George Stibitz. I chose this because we use calculators in our every day lifes! They are very important and we would not be where we are in technology today without them.
  • software and language

    software and language
Claude Shannon´s "The Mathematical Theory of Communication" showed engineers how to code data so they could check for accuracy after transmission between computers. This is important becuase it sparked people idea of communication through technology.
  • First comercial computer

    First comercial computer
first commercial computer, the Lyons Electronic Office, solved clerical problems. The president of Lyons Tea Co. had the computer, modeled after the EDSAC, built to solve the problem of daily scheduling production and delivery of cakes to the Lyons tea shops. This is important because it started a revolution for the first computers
  • Early keyboard

    Early keyboard
At MIT, researchers began experimentation on direct keyboard input on computers, a precursor to today´s normal mode of operation. This is important because it sparked ideas for the early aged keyboard that we use everyday!
  • Early Laptops

    Early Laptops
The precursor to the minicomputer, DEC´s PDP-1 sold for $120,000. This is important because it was the start of "mini computers" or laptops!
  • Magnetic Storage

    Magnetic Storage
IBM 1311 Disk Storage Drive is announced. Announced on October 11, 1962, the IBM 1311 was the first disk drive IBM made with a removable disk pack. Each pack weighed about ten pounds, held six disks, and had a capacity of 2 million characters. This is very important because magnetic storage has come a long way since the 60's.
  • First robot

    First robot
RI International´s Shakey became the first mobile robot controlled by artificial intelligence. Equipped with sensing devices and driven by a problem-solving program called STRIPS, the robot found its way around the halls of SRI by applying information about its environment to a route. This is very important because now comanys are designing Very complexed robots
  • Apple 1

    Apple 1
Steve Wozniak, a young American electronics expert, designed the Apple-1, a single-board computer for hobbyists. With an order for 50 assembled systems from Mountain View, California This is important because Apple is huge now!
  • First hard disk drive

    First hard disk drive
Seagate Technology created the first hard disk drive for microcomputers, the ST506. The disk held 5 megabytes of data, five times as much as a standard floppy disk, and fit in the space of a floppy disk drive. This is important becuase now we base our phones off of Gigabites
  • Games!

    Games!
Video Toaster is introduced by NewTek. The Video Toaster was a video editing and production system for the Amiga line of computers and included custom hardware and special software. This is important because kids now use graphics and games to the max. Its some peoples life! Video games.
  • Yahoo

    Yahoo
Yahoo is founded. Founded by Stanford graduate students Jerry Yang and David Filo, Yahoo started out as "Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web" before being renamed. This is impostant because Yahoo is a big search engine for people all around
