Z3 Machine

1941

Konrad Zuse designed the first working programmable and fully automatic digital computer in 1935 and finished it in 1941.

Atanasoff-Berry Computer (ABC)

1941

Atanasoff and student Clifford Berry design the first digital electronic computer in the U.S. Was able to store information on main memory and perform one operation every 15 second.

ENIAC

1945

First programmable, electronic, general-purpose digital computer (all in one).

Transistor

1947

William Shockley, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain of Bell Laboratories invent the transistor. A transistor computer that uses transistors instead of vacuum tubes.

Electronic Delay Storage Automatic Calculator (EDSAC)

1949

Maurice Wilkes and a team at the University of Cambridge developed the EDSAC. It was able to calculate a table of squares and a list of prime numbers.
