    Magna Carta

    A document that allows the king to remain in the monarchy but he must give respect his subject's rights.

  • The Townshend Acts

    This Act was written because people were angry with the Sugar Act. Mr. Townshend felt the colonists would readily accept this Act rather than the one that regulates trade.

  • The Jay Treaty

    This treaty was asking the British to abandon their forts in America and the British were attacking American ships. In return Britain would get special trade status.

  • The Nullification Crisis

    The Nullification Crisis came up because the people thought taxes were unjust. The people said they did not have to obey laws they felt were unjust.

  • The Mexican Cession

    This treaty established the Rio Grande as the southern border of Texas. Mexico gave up all of Texas.

  • Comprise of 1850

    All new states below the 36 degrees 30' line would become slave states except the new state of Missouri.

  • The Great Railroad Strike of 1877

    The strike shut down cities. The army eventually had to intervene.
