King George II signs charter establishing colony of Georgia. Later during the year, James Oglethorpe and 114 colonists departed on board the Anne.

James Oglethorpe and 114 settlers on the ship Anne first arrived in Charles Town and then sailed over to Port Royal. They sailed south and were able to get permission there from Tomochichi to settle in Yamacraw Bluff.

The colonists finally arrive at Yamacraw Bluff and name Georgia's first settlement Savannah for the nearby river.

Oglethorpe asks the Parliament for government funding to build forts along Georgia's southern border.

German-speaking settlers from Salzburg arrived in Savannah. The Salzburg's had been persecuted because of their religious beliefs.

Oglethorpe led an invasion south into Florida and captured Fort Diego but lost at Fort Mose.

Several thousand Spanish soldiers push Georgia defenders to Fort Frederica, but when the Spanish approached within a mile of Fort Frederica, Oglethorpe's patrol opened fire. Then, Oglethorpe did a second surprise attack shortly after and won.
