    John returns to England finding his whole settlement gone. It is currently August 18th it was Virginia's third birthday.     Jamestown was named after King James I and was the first surviving English settlement. Water surrounded the area on three sides and was very deep so the boats could be parked there. The location was good to fight off the Spanish.

    There was 41 English settlers that went onto the Mayflower to establish a new colony. They were not all Puritans but many brought families. They has a very rough winter, and many people died, but with the help of the Indians the pilgrims were able to survive.

    Carolina was created for trade especially in trade of slaves and sugar. Lord Clarendon, Sir William Berkley, Sir George Carteret, and four others were the ones that settled and governed the new territory. According to the picture below it was first settled by the English in 1670.

    A Yale minister Johnathan Edwards was concerned with the way New Englanders were thinking more of worldly matters than religion, so he started preaching about the word of God. Many people wanted to hear him speak and came from all over to hear him. This spread around the British American colonies and was known as the Great Awakening.

    Albany Plan
    The Albany plan was to include the colonists of North America more into the centralized government. In the end, the plan did not go through and the North American colonists continued to not be included in the government. Even though this plan did not work out it did help out as a model for future attempt at a union.

    It is also known as the 7 year war, and was a struggle between France and British. It was from 1756 to 1763. During this time a peace treaty was made to help the American colonies to strengthen their power.

    Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 was an agreement of the British to give land to the Indians after the French-Indian War. The proclamation stated that citizens could not purchase land from the Indians. The Indians could do whatever they pleased to do though.
