Fighting for Independence
The Spanish are defeated by Simon Bolivar at Boyaca. Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela are created and called the republic of Gran Colombia. -
Split of Venezuala and Ecuador
Ecuador and Venezuala become independent states because they broke off from Gran Colombia. Only Panama and Colombia are left in Gran Colombia, which got re-named Nueva Granada. -

The two parties are the Conservative and the Liberal parties. They became founded because of disscussion and dissagreement, -

With the Liberals in power, they ave seperated the church and the state. Also, Colombia got divided between nine entites. -
Regaining power
The conservatives have gained power over the liberals. The church is now one with the state and the power of the conservatives is re-centralized. -
Thousands Day War
This war is fought between the Liberals and the Conservatives. 120,000 people lost thier lives. Another state breaks away from Colombia and becomes its own independent state. -

Civil War
Some where between 250,000 and 300,000 people died. -
Agreement
The Conservative party and the Liberal party come to an agreement to end the war from National Front. -
Frees Prisoners
President Belisario Betancur frees the political prisoners. -
New President
Virgilio Barco Vargas is ellected President of Colombia. Murder campaign is started by right-wing military groups. This murder campaign is pointed towards politicians.
