    Berlin Airlift

    This started when the soviet forces blocked rail, road and water access to allied controlled areas in Berlin. The United States and United Kingdom responded by airlifting food and fuel to Berlin from Allied air bases in western Germany. There was 2.3 million tons of supplies airlifted to Berlin.

    Creation of NATO

    the United States, Canada, and several Western European nations came together to provide collective security against the Soviet Union. NATO was the first peace military alliance the United States entered into outside of the Western Hemisphere. They had each others backs.

    It was very similar to the Vietnam war. The North pinned against the south with the north backed up by communist nations and the south by democratic. It ended with a draw.

    It was a civil war fought between north and south Vietnam. This was fought with U.S. involvement as they were allied with South Vietnam. The north won.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik

    It was the first artificial satellite successfully placed in orbit around the Earth. This satellite made it possible to study wave transmission and density of the atmosphere. And it allowed scientists to track objects in orbit.
  • Cuban Missile crisis

    A period of time when the USSR and U.S. were under threat of missile bombardment from each other. The U.S. was set to fire from Turkey. The USSR was set to fire from Cuba

    A wall built by the communists encircling west Berlin. This was to keep them separated from east Berlin and its capitalist affairs. This began a struggle to keep the democratic nations out of west germany.

    After four days traveling to the Moon the Lunar Module Eagle with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon. This was the first moon landing. Neil armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon.

    An alliance between the USSR and numerous other socialist nations. It was in place to defend the smaller nations. It dissolved at the end of the Cold War.

    The Berlin wall separated the communist east germany from West Germany. It was the formal opening between soviet controlled East Berlin and Western Berlin. this signified the end of the Cold War.
