The Marshall Plan
This was formed by the Secretary of State George C. Marshall. This was a plan that would provide financial and economic aid to European countries after WWII. Marshall thought that Europe would become communist if he didn't end up helping. -
Berlin Airlift
This was made by the Soviets to potentially be able to cut off access to West Germany. Materials flown in by this was all coal which was 1.5 million tons of it. When they realized in May that the blockade didn't work they reopened the borders. -
Creation of NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was formed between the territories of North America and Europe. They made the treaty so they would defend each other from the Soviet Union, that was now communist, from taking over their nation. Many countries that are powerful signed this treaty as well including the U.S. -
China become Communist
Moa claimed to lead the goverment that had 14 seperate political parites in the government. This then was lead by the Communist Party. The official of the Communist Party were then put in charge of the society in many different ways. Even the media was controlled by the party. -
The Korean War
North Korea began bombing on what is now South Korea with a surprise attack. The spread of communism also started this war. The U.S. military sent troops to South Korea because of the Truman Document stating that the U.S. had to help any country fighting communism. -
US creates and tests the hydrogen bomb
This test gave the U.S. a great advantage against the Soviet Union. The United States got a head start on its program to develop the next stage in atomic weapons. This was the termonuclear bomb or the hydrogen bomb. This new weapon was about 1000 times more powerful then other nuclear devices. -
Rosenberg Spy Case
The Rosenberg's were death sentenced because of spying on the Americans weapons and bombs and passing it on to Russia. When people found out about it they were sentenced to jail and later put in the electric chair because they were told that it was "worse then murder". -
Vietnam War
50,000 Americans were involved in the war against North and South Vietnam. The U.S. was supporting South Vietnam at the time. This was he longest war and was supplied many weapons. At the end 3 million people were killed during this time period. -
Creation of the Warsaw Pact
Also known as the "treaty of mutual friendship, co-operation and mutual assistance". This pact became a militaristic threat because it was the Communist counteraction to NATO. The treaty included "total equality". -
Bay of Pigs
An invasion ordered by JFK on Cuba. This was ment to start a rebellion against Fidal Castro. At the end instead of a revolt it gave Castro a victory which made him a symbol to American agression. -
Berlin Wall Goes Up
This border was put up to put between East and West Berlin to be closed. The boundary is sealed by East Germany troops. It first started with barbed wire and light fencing that then became a complex wall. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
Khrushchev's made an intermediate range of missiles in Cuba that would would put them in lead against the United States from being able to develop and deploy missiles. -
The Six Day War
This was a fight over water ways that resulted in Egypt blocking Israel's access to a seaport only and Israels got back at Egypt by bombing their airfields. By this point other Arab nations came to Egypt to support and help them out with the war coming. -
The Fall of the Berlin Wall
The government of East Germany announced that visits to West Germany and West Berlin are allowed. This then let the thousands of East Berlin people to pass into West Berlin that allowed the people to started tearing down the wall. -
Collapse of the Soviet Union
The Soviet Union seperated into fifteen different countries. This was because of the west that got their victory for freedom. The United States was in joy for that their enemies were destroyed at last. This ended the Cold War which had been going on since the end of WWII.
