In 1945, China got Taiwan from Japan after World War II. This is big to the US because they become another big communist power to go along with North Korea, Cuba, and the Soviets. -

War between northern and southern parts of Vietnam. The US was with the southern side. We joined the war with the intentions of preventing the spread of Communism. The northern half wanted to be Communist while the southern half wanted to be democratic. -

Unsuccessful military invasion attempt on Cuba. We intended to over throw the president of Cuba but got defeated by Cuban armed forces in 3 days. -

Cuban Misslie Crisis
13 day stand off with the US versus Russiaa and Cuba together. They were threatening to launch missiles at us for those 13 days and we had ours ready too. If they wouldve launched their missiles, we would've launched ours and thinks wouldn't end up pretty. But when it ended, this basically marked the end of the Cold War -
The 6 Day War
This war lasted 6 days and was between Egypt and Israel. Israel used arial attacks to take control of the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, and the Golan Heights from Syria. They gained a lot in just 6 days -
US Sends First Man To The Moon
The mission name was called Apollo 11 and the goal, that was achieved, was to put the firat man on the moon. We did it and their names were Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. This started "The Space Race" with Russia. -

Fidel Castro became the ultimate dictator of Cuba. He had one of the biggest powers on his side; the power we hated the most. The USSR. They were the ones that supplied Cuba with the missiles that even caused the 13 day stand off during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He changed the country drasically and came out of power recently in 2008. He died in 2011 -
1980 Olympic Hockey game
This game was called "The Miracle on Ice". The US went up against the very strong and favored to win USSR team. We somehow won and completely destroyed their confidence. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall/German Reunification
People crossing over the wall back and forth illegally made them tear it down. It symbolised the reunification of Germany. The wall took a long time to tear down because it was 92 miles long. -
Collapse Of the Soviet Union
15 republics declasred independency from the Soviet Union. The day before, Gorbachev resigned from office. The fall of the world's first and largest Communist country ended to the Cold War.
