    The Red Scare was the fear of communism. It encouraged many people to oppose communism and want to eradicate the world from it. The first Red Scare started when Russia was beginning to see communism. The second Red Scare known as McCarthyism. Where the senator Joseph McCarthy spread the scare of communism and the concern of it spreading in the east.

    Collapse of the Soviet Union
    Because of the many reforms that Mikhail Gorbachev enacted during his leadership, the Soviet Union fell. He made many reforms that lessened the effect of communism. Communism was starting to fall in surrounding countries, and this led to the influence of the fall in the Soviet Union.

    PictureHarry Truman was in office. He started the involvment of the United States protecting and getting involved with any countries threatened by communism by creating the Truman Doctrine.

    Berlind was split into four parts.
    The Soviet Union realized it didn't trust the western part of the world considering that at the start of WWII they did nothing to help. In order to build up it's area and have supporting countries, communism spread to other countries. Some of these countries wanted communism while others didn't.
    Winston Churchill pointed out the obvious divide between the Soviet Union and the west by saying "...an iron curtain has descended across the Continent."

    The United Nations was created at the end of WWII. It was a replacement for the League of Nations which never really worked out. When it was created, they did not invite Russia which created Russia to not trust the western part of the world.

    The Truman Doctrine was created to aid any countries that were threatened by communism. It started with Greece and led to Vietnam, Korea, and many other countries threatened by communism.
  • McCarthyism/Second Red Scare

    Joseph McCarthy started the second Red Scare with creating everyone to ahve a fear of communism. He made many false accusations because he had no evidence. McCarthyism is known to be anything that is accused with no proper evidence. Joseph McCarthy did this frequently to create more concern of communism.

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was created to help fix Europe after the destruction of WWII. It's goals were to "remove trade barriers, modernize industry, make Europe prosperous again, and prevent the spread of communism".

    NATO
    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created to defend and protect and member countries and also aid any struggling countries with specific NATO forces. NATO forces are made up of member countries. It had a big involvement with the Korean War. It also appeared to be against communism and let many countries that were previously affected by communism join in order to protect them against any continuation of communism.

    PictureThe Korean War was a war againt the communism in Korea. North Korea was a communist country that was pushing its government onto South Korea. The United States and the United Nations became involved in fighting against the spread of communism. The war ended up with the United States getting all of Korea free from communism until it pushed into China where then it was pushed back down to South Korea. In the end, South Korea was free from communism but North Korea was not.

It ended up with America leaving the war and North Vietnam winning and then annexing South Korea.

    Bay of Pigs Invasion
    When the Cuban nationalist leader Fidel Castro rose to pwoer in Cuba, the CIA tried their best to remove him from power. He overthrough the American supported president that was in Cuba. Fidel Castro was a large supporter of communism and of course the United States did not like this, so they did their best to get him out of power. On April 17, 1962 the CIA launched an invasion to get rid of him that went badly. Their troops were quickly outnumbered by the many troops Castro had.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was the fear of nuclear war when there was a threat of the Soviet Union attacking the United States with missiles that were in Cuba. This led to more tension and fear between the countries at war.

    A man named Lee Harvey Oswald used a sniper to assassinated president Kennedy. This led to shock all over America. The reasons as to why he shot Kennedy are really unknown. It could be because of the war. Who knows.

    Fall of Communism in Eastern Europe

    PictureAround the 1990s, many countries in Eastern Europe that had communism lost that communism. Poland, the main country that did not want communism, was the first to go. Poland was a very religious country which didn't make sense for the communism there. For Czechoslovakia, the Velvet Revolution was a peaceful revolution to end the communism. Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, & East Germany also lost communism. Yugoslavia, who was never really a communist country, was the last.

    PictureWhen the Iraq leader Hussein invaded Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Egypt felt threatened. They asked for the western countries to help. When Hessein refused to remove his troops afer the UN's warning, it led to the Gulf War. The United Nations won the war leaving Iraq and Kuwait in a terrible condition.

    War in Afghanistan

    PictureShortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the United States invaded Afghanistan. The war is still going on. So far they have defeated the Taliban government in Afghanistan and this led to fall of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Osama Bin Laden has also been killed along with many other terrorists and their camps. An "establishment of new Afghan government and creation of the new Afghan National Army" occurred. More than 5.7 million Afghan and Pakastan refugees have been returned as well.

    PictureThe war on Iraq was a result of the government Hussein was ruling. The United States didn't like it and after the Gulf War became more invovled in a bigger war, the Iraq War. This ended with the Untied States withdrawing in 2011.The United States managed to overthrow the government Hussein had been ruling and assassinate him. They put a democratic government in palce, but shorty the surgence of an Islamic state in Iraq occured.

    September 11 Terrorist Attacks
    On September 11, 2001, Osama Bin Laden, who was the leader of the terrorist group al-Qaeda, launched four terrorist attacks on the United States. Two of the attacks were planes that crashed into both Twin Towers. The other hit the pentagon. One was supposed to go to the White House but ended up in field in Shanksville. These attacks led to the United States involvement in the war in Afghanistan.
