After Fidel Castro's takeover of cuba, 1,400 cuban exiles, funded by the US, launched an invasion to overthrow Fidel castro. This failed miserably as the US insufficiently funded the exiles in an attempt to hide US involvement. End date april 20 1961 -
The Cuban Missile Crisis
The USSR had placed nukes in cuba order to reach the US. This greatly threatened the US which they acted by blockading the incoming nukes. the tensions reached a near breaking point as the US prepared to invade cuba. A sole Soviet submarine lost contact with Moscow. Mistaken that a war had already begun, nearly launched a nuke at the US fleet. With the deal that the US would remove missiles from turkey and the USSR would remove theirs from cuba the Crisis was resolved.
