    The First Berlin Crisis

    The USSR wanted to get Berlin as a whole, therefore they created a blocked that surrounded West Berlin in order to make West Germany transport goods into that part of the city. However, the USA introduced an Airlift.
  • Truman Doctrine

    This policy was based on the idea of the domino theory. Truman thought that a communist government would quickly start to spread its ideology, and multiple communist takeovers would happen.

  • The Birth of the two German states

    The GDR was under the USSR'S control while the GFR was under French, English, but mostly under American control. Not just Germany, but even it's capital, Berlin was divided into two parts.
  • Death of Stalin and the End of the Classical Period

    After Stalin's death, Khrushchev got into power. After the Congress of Communist Party in 1956, he started de-stalinization, which meant that he made Stalin's sins public, he reduced the number of labor camps and he increased the living standards in the USSR.
  • Warsaw Pact

    It was led by the USSR. The satellite states had to attack or assist mutually with the USSR.
  • Suez Crisis

    The President of Egypt decided to nationalize the Suez canal. Because of the importance of the canal, France Britain and Israel attacked Egypt.

    Arms limitation talks happened between the USA and the USSR, which reduced the number of nuclear weapons.
  • The Vietnam War(1964-75)

    The communist became popular in South Vietnam, so USA sent advisors there. Vietnam was important to the USSR, so the Viatnam war broke out, that the USSR succesfully won by guerilla warfare.
  • Helsinki accords

    The USSR accepted the equal rights and self determination of people. It also accepted the freedom of speech.
