    the boundary dividing Europe into two separate areas from the end of World War II (Seperating the USSR from the rest of europe). this was significant because this helped prevent the USSR from spreading communism to other countries. this lasted until the end of the cold war in 1991
  • Potsdam Conference

    Potsdam Conference
    This was the last WW2 meeting featuring Harry Truman (President of the United States at the time), Joseph Stalin (Dictator of the USSR at the time), and Winston Churchill (Prime Minister of the UK at the time). This conference split the UK and the US on one side and the USSR on the other which started the cold war not long after.
  • Atomic Bombs - Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    Atomic Bombs - Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    these two bombings were a revenge plan on Japan because they bombed Pearl Harbor so we decided to go the extra mile and completely destroy 2 of their cities. this was important because these two bombings ended the war quicker than it would've if we didn't, Japan would've eventually surrendered but we made them surrender quicker.

    This was a public act where ten people from the Hollywood film industry denounced tactics to find communists in the US from the US house of representatives and they ended up getting themselves in jail. this was important because this led "ties to other communists in the movie industry"
  • The Truman Doctrine

    This was the plan to stop the USSR (The Commies) to not spread their terrible government ways across the world. This was important because the US help Turkey, Greece etc... by defending their countries so the USSR wouldn't destroy them and take them over
  • Marshall plan

    Marshall plan
    the Marshall plan was a plan to help western Europe economically by giving them 13 billion dollars (110 billion today) to help rebuild. this was important because this not only strengthened the alliance between america and western Europe but also if another war were to break out then we would have allies ready to help us.
  • Berlin blockade and airlift

    This blockade (in Berlin obviously) was to block the Western Allies' railway, road, and canal access to the sectors of Berlin. this was important because this stopped a lot of food and water supplies in berlin, the airlift tried to help that by drooping in supplies like food, water, and fuel until, may of 1949, the soviets lifted the blockade

    NATO was the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, this is an organisation between north america and Europe. this was important to the Cold War because it strengthened the western Europe alliance with America

    This was the war between North (backed up by China and the Soviets) and South Korea. this was important because this was the first armed war during the Cold War
  • The Soviet Bomb test

    this was the soviets test on their atomic bomb. this was important because the cold war was all about threats, and now knowing that the soviets had an atomic bomb was huge because now they were on the same step as us.

    This was a war in Vietnam to reunify Vietnam. this was important because it was a direct result of the first Indochina war and it didnt end until 1975
  • Khruschev Takes over

    Nikita Khruschev took over for Stalin in running the USSR after he had died. ths was important because they didnt have an insane serial killer running their union.

    The Army-McCarthy hearings were multiple hearings to examine conflicting accusations between the United States Army and U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy of communism. this was important because McCarthyism played a huge role in the cold war by getting the dirty commies out of the county ruining it.

    This policy made it to where if a country were to be attacked they could retaliate in a much bigger force, so basically what America did to Japan during WW2
  • Warsaw Pact

    This was a pact (treaty) that included the Soviet Union and the satellite countries around it. This was significant to the Cold War because this meant the the Soviet Union wasn't alone and had allies to back them up the like America did
  • Hungarian Revolution

    This was a Revolt against the communist government of Hungary. this was important because this meant that the USSR would've had one less ally and communist country to rule the rest of the world, but the USSR put a halt to the Revolution by invading Budapest, ending it in November of 1956.
  • U-2 incident

    the U-2 plane was an advanced CIA spy plane going over the Soviet Union, it then got shot down by the USSR. This was important because America had to admit that we were spying on the USSR.

    This was a failed invasion of Cuba. this was important because Cuba had to establish a new government.

    This was a wall that divided Berlin. this was important because the wall illustrated lack of freedom under communism

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a confrontation between the USSR saying America had missiles in Turkey and the USSR has missiles in cuba. This was important because america got to keep their missiles in turkey by lying and saying we dint have them and the USSR moved them out because they believed us.
