    The Columbian Exchange

    The Columbian Exchange
    Website for pictureThe Columbian Exchange was an exchange of materials such as livestock, and ideas such as cultural beliefs between the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. This event was important because although many people suffered from many diseases, both hemispheres benefited from new products such as agriculture crops.
  • Revolutionary War

    Revolutionary War
    Website for pictureThe Revolutionary War was a fight between the British and the colonists that was caused by the British participating in numerous acts that angered the colonists. Some of these acts included prohibiting them to trade freely, and taxing the colonists. I chose this event as one of the top ten important events of this time period because African Americans and women had changes in their society after this event. For example, more schools started accepting more women and slave trade was reduced.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    Website of pictureThe Declaration of Independence was drafted by Thomas Jefferson but many others joined him in the creation of this paper which allowed the United States to be independent from Great Britain. I selected this event as one of the top ten important events of this time period because this paper is one of the United States's most important symbols of freedom. After the Declaration of Independence was created, taxation without representation was prohibited and all men were considered equal.
  • The Constitutional Convention

    The Constitutional Convention
    Website for pictureThe Constitutional Convention was held at the Independence Hall and consisted of 55 delegates whose purpose was to strengthen the Articles of Confederation. I chose the Constitutional Convention as one of the top ten important events from this time period because it led to the creation of the Constitution which fixed the flaws in the Articles of Confederation. For example, trade was regulated and an executive branch was created.
  • Division of the President's Cabinet

    The President's Cabinet, which were a group of advisors who helped the president carry out policy, were eventually divided into two political parties known as the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. This happened because Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, who were members of the Cabinet, disagreed on matters of policy. This event is important because political parties play had a very important role in the development of the U.S.
  • Ratification of the Constitution Part 1

    In order for the constitution to be ratified, at least 3/4 of the states that it was sent out to had to approve it. A division was created between those who supported the Constitution, Federalists, and those who wanted to include the Bill of Rights in the Constitution, Anti-Federalists. Alexander Hamilton was a Federalist and helped create the Federalist Papers to gain support for the Constitution. Hamilton, who believed in the Constitution, wrote a letter to the people of the state of new york
  • Ratification of the Constitution Part 2

    To explain to them why he felt the Constitution would aid in making decisions and would bring the United States as a country. For example, he says "A FIRM Union will be of the utmost moment to the peace and liberty of the States, as a barrier against domestic faction and insurrection."
  • The Second Great Awakening

    The Second Great Awakening
    Website of pictureThe Second Great Awakening was a time where religion was brought back for Methodists, Baptists, and Presbyterians. I chose the Second Great Awakening as one of the top ten important events of this time period because religion is very important to me and as the religious changes spread throughout the nation, many churches were constructed and societies were brought together.
  • The Bill of Rights

    Congress adopted the Bill of Rights into the Constitution which are ten amendments that ensure people's freedoms. Some examples of the amendments that are included in the Bill of Rights are that we have freedom of speech, and the government needs a warrant to search our homes. I selected the adoption of the Bill of Rights as one of the top ten important events from this time period because these amendents symbolize our freedom and they play a key role in the law and government policies.
  • Manifest Destiny

    The Manifest Destiny, which was created by John O'Sullivan, gave America the right to expand and spread our beliefs of freedom and democracy across North America. I chose the creation of th Manifest Destiny as one of the top ten important events of this time period because this event brought democracy to many countries, which is a government run by the people. After the creation of the manifest destiny, the U.S. gained more land from Mexico and Great Britain.
  • War With Mexico

    War With Mexico
    Website for pictureThe Mexican-American War was caused by the U.S. wanting to expand across the North American continent which caused conflict with Mexico. After many years, the war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo on February 2, 1849. I selected the War with Mexico as one of the top ten most important events in this time period because if it wasn't for this war, the U.S. would not include many of the states that it has today such as New Mexico, California, and Texas.
  • The Gold Rush

    After gold was discovered in California by James Marshall on the year of 1848, many people from all over the world and the U.S. went to California in search for gold. This event became known as the Gold Rush. I chose the Gold Rush as one of the top ten most important events from this time period because gold is still valuable and is used for many different purposes. Without gold, we wouldn't have some medicines and some electronics that we have today.
