    -McClellan began his military career after entering the United States Military Academy in 1842.
  • Battle of Shiloh/ PIttsburgh Landing

    -Majior General Ulysses S. Grant le dthe Union Army.
    - During the first attacks, Confederate Gen. Johnston was mortally wounded and was replaced by P.G.T. Beauregard.
  • Battle of 2nd Bull Run/ Manassas Junction

    • Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia fought against Union Maj. Gen. John Pope's Army of Virginia. -Confederate Majior Gen. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson captured the Union supply depot at Manassas Junction.
  • Battle Of Antietam/ Sharpsburg

    -General Meade of the Union Army and his troops won this battle.
    -This battle is also famous for Pickett's Charge in which his Confederate soldiers were attempting to take the Union position but received a large number of casualties.
  • Surrender of Vicksburg

    -Confederate general John C. Pemberton surrendered to Union general Ulysses S. Grant.
    -With the loss of Pemberton’s army and this vital stronghold on the Mississippi, the Confederacy was effectively split in half.
  • Gettysburg Address

    -Speech was delivered by Abraham Lincoln in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
    -This speech was only 272 words, but Lincoln reminded the public that the Union still had toi fight.

    -Sherman's March to the Sea was conducted in Georgia from November 15, 1864 to December 21, 1864.
    -General William Tecumseh Sherman's march ended with the capture of the port of Savannah on December 21.
  • Lee surrenders to Grant

    -With his army surrounded, his men weak and exhausted, Robert E. Lee realized there was little choice but to consider the surrender of his Army to General Grant.
    - Lee's final stand was at Appomattox Court House, where he launched an attack to break through the Union force.
