    Siege of Vicksburg

    Union attempts to take the Confederate stronghold on Vicksburg, Mississippi. The Union succeeds, forcing residents to live in holes until the Confederacy finally surrendered. This victory effectively split the Confederacy.
  • Ft. Wagner (54th Massachusetts)

    The 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment was one of the first to use black soldiers, albeit the wage difference amongst the white and black soldiers of he regiment. They prepare to attack Fort Wagner in South Carolina, but are overtaken by a surprisingly high number of Confederate Soldiers. 281/600 is killed in a Confederate victory aimed to disencourage the use of black soldiers, but it only heightens the amount of black men willing to fight. This loss strengthens the regiment.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    A three day battle in which the Confederacy threatens the North, leading to a massacre of 51,000 men. This is a major victory for the Union as they win the Mississippi River. It’s significance is the sheer amount of people killed and it’s causing the famous Gettysburg address.
  • Sherman’s March to the Sea

    A Union military campaign to attack and frighten the residents of Savannah, Georgia in order to frighten the Confederacy into surrendering. Not a true battle, but it greatly impacted the Confederacy as their residents gained a lot of fear.
  • Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address

    Lincoln gives a speech to attempt to unite the North and the South as one against slavery, citing slavery as the reason for the war. This marks Lincoln truly addressing slavery.

  • Appomattox Courthouse

    The Confederacy surrenders to the Union after a period of massive loss for the Confederacy. Occurs at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia.
  • 13th Amendment

    Slavery is fully banned, ending slavery debate.
  • Fall Of Richmond

    Richmond, Virginia was the capital of the confederacy and the the seat of political power. Due to its symbolic importance, it was the target of attempts by the Union to seize the capital. After a long 9 month siege of the capital of Richmond, the union finally makes it to the capital and the confederacy makes one lastattempt to salvage their capital but they end up losing 4800 men. Fire is set to the city in efforts to destroy assets but it goes wrong and the whole city is destroyed.
