Abraham Lincoln was elected president. It's significant because the South didn't vote for him but he still became president. -
South Carolina Secedes
The South had warned if Abraham Lincoln became president, they would leave.
Abraham Lincoln ended up becoming president and South Carolina kept its promise and seceded. It's significant because they were the first to actually leave. -

Attack on Fort Sumter
The North was coming over to supply the fort and the South warned them not too but they didn't listen which caused the South to instead attack the fort. It's significant because it started the Civil War. -
Battle of Bull Run/Manassas
The North wanted to invade the Confederate's capital Richmond because the Anaconda Plan was taking too long. It's significant because it was the first major battle of the Civil War and because the Confederates won which caused the North to view the war in a different way and also made them take the rebellion more seriously. -
Battle of Antietam
The first major win for the North. This is also significant because it was the bloodiest day in all of American history. -

Battle of Fredericksburg
A new General was placed to replace General McLellan. He's addressed as General Burnside and he was too aggressive and chose to try to attack and take Richmond which they lost. This is significant because it was a devastating loss for the Union. -
Emancipation Proclamation
After the Battle of Antietam, Abraham Lincoln decides to issue the Emancipation Proclamation which is significant because it freed all slaves in states in Confederate states. -

Battle of Vicksburg
It was the last thing the Confederates had that was strong and powerful on the Mississippi River. It gave the Union access to deeper parts of the South. It's significant because the Anaconda Plan had been succeeded. -

Battle of Gettysburg
General Lee went to go get his troop's shoes and he ran into the Union. They called for help. This battle wasn't planned at all. For the next 3 days, they fought on rocky hills, and fields spread through Gettysburg. The Union had got a high ground which resulted in them winning. it's significant because it was the last time Lee and Confederacy ever invaded the North. -
54th Massachusetts Fight at Fort Wagner
They were the first allowed to fight in the Army. In significance, they were also the most famous of all-black regiments. -
Gettysburg Address
Lincoln came to Gettysburg to honor the dead of the war and his vision for this country, It's significant because even though it's short it is one of the most famous speeches of all time. -

Sherman’s March to the Sea
The Union received a new General and he created a strategy called Total War. This means A war not only against enemy troops but against anything that supports the enemy. It's significant because it took away all of the Southern resources. -
13th Amendment Passed
Abraham Lincoln takes him winning the Election of 1864 as a sign to end slavery permanently so he urges Congress to pass the law to end it everywhere. This happens after he dies, unfortunately. It's significant because it abolished slavery, prohibited involuntary servitude, and nullified the Fugitive Slave Act and the 3/5th compromise. -
Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse
General Grant chased Lee through Virginia and took the Capital of Richmond and Lee wanted to continue to fight but found it useless and agreed to surrender so they picked a time and place at which is now known as the Appomattox Courthouse which is significant because it's the same place the Civil War began and he also didn't give them any penalties. He just wanted to stop the fighting and return home in peace.
