    Conderedate attacked for 34 hours. There were 580 soldiers there (Union and Confederate) total. The Union was outnumbered 80 to 500. This started the civil war. Robert Anderson (Union) and P.G.T. Beauregard (Confederate) were there. So, the Confederate won.
  • Bull Run (Manassas)

    Bull Run (Manassas)
    There were 60,680 soldiers there in total, and 4,878 estimated casualties. Irvin McDowell (Union) and Joseph E. Johnston were the commanding generals for this battle. The Union began shelling across Bull Run and crossed at Sudley Ford to sneak attack. This was the actual 1st battle of the civil war. Although, the Union was actually attacking, the Confederate won.
  • Monitor vs Merrimac

    Monitor vs Merrimac
    There were 1,588 soldiers in this battle and an estimated 393 casualties. John L. Worden (Union) and Franklin Buchanan (Confederate) were the key people in this battle. The CSS Virginia attacked the Cumberland with it's 1500lb iron ram, leaving a hole in the victim. The Cumberland later sank. CSS Virginia then turned to the USS Congress hoping to sink it too. It attacked until the USS Congress surrendered. When Buchanan got onto the deck of his ship, she was shot from shore. Nobody won. Mar 8-9
  • Richmond

    The key generals in this battle were Maj. Gen. Kirby Smith (confederate) and Maj. Gen. William Nelson (Union). After noon, the Union joined the fray, forcin the Confederate to retreat. This was in Madison County near Richmond, Virginia. Brigadier General Mahlon D. Manson, who commanded Union forces in the area, commanded a brigade to march to Rogersville, toward the rebels. Anyway, the Confederate won and captured a lot of Nelson's troops. Aug 29-30 1862.
  • Anietam

    There were 131,000 soldiers there and an estimated 22,717 casualties. George B. McClellan (Union) and Robert E. Lee (Confederate) were there. The Union confronted the Confederate VA army. The Union started this battle. It is known as the Bloodiest Day in American Military History. The confederate was in Maryland. The Union had more soldiers. No one won. Sept 16-18 1862
  • Fredricksburg

    Fredricksburg
    There were 172,504 soldiers there and an estimated 17,929 casualties. Both sides suffered heavy losses. Ambrose E. Burnside (Union) and Robert E. Lee were the key generals in his battle. The comfederate won. Burnside was later (two weeks later) removed from command of the Potomac army. Dec 11-15 1862.
  • Vicksburg

    110,000 soldiers were there and there was an estimated 37,402 casualties.Ulysses S. Grant (Union) and John C. Pemberton (Confederate) were the key generals in this battle. The casualties include the 29,491 officers and men surrendered by Pemberton. There were more than 2x the amount of Union soldiers compared to the number of Confederate soldiers. On May 19th - 22nd the Confederate assailed the Rebel stronghold but lost. The Union won this battle. May 18- July 4 1863.

    165,620 soldiers were there and an estimated 51,112 casualties. George G. Meade (Union) and Robert E. Lee (Confederate) were the key generals in this battle. The confederate wanted to collect supplies in Pennyslvania and take fighting away from VA. The Union was following the Confederate. The Union won it's first battle. July 1-3 1863.
  • Sherman's March to the Sea

    Sherman's March to the Sea
    The key people in this 'battle' are William Tecumseh Sherman (Union) and Joseph Wheeler (Confederate). Sherman wanted to end the war quicker, so he made up this plan, and executed it well. He is rightly called the American Father of Total Warfare. Sherman set toward the Atlantoc Ocean and eventually turned North to pin Robert E. Lee'sarmy between his and Grant's army. The Union obviously won. Nov 18- Dec 24 1864
