    This battle was the bloodiest day in U.S. history. General Robert E. Lee led his army to Maryland in an attempt to win the war. Both sides losing the same amount of men, due to that, since the Confederate Army is small, they had to withdraw from the battle.

    The fighting was three days long, with 90,000 Union soldiers versus 75,000 Confederate soldiers. An attack that Lee issued killed 13,000 of his soldiers due to the heavy Union fire in that area.

    A law was passed requiring men ages 20-35 and unmarried men ages 35-45 to participate in military duty. Due to this, people in New York didn't like this law and the way to avoid being drafted. So, they rioted so they're opinion could be heard.

    The march command by General William Tecumseh Sherman was a march all the way to Atlanta. This march was to destroy all the resources that the South needed to fight. After the success of this, the South was left without resources to continue the Civil War.
