    The election of 1860 was when Abraham Lincoln was electe as president. The South was upset that the He won even though none of them voted for him. The significance was that the north had more power and the slaves had someone to help them get freedome.

    The south thought the North had too much power. They thought that since the volutarily joined, then that meant that they could leave when they wanted. The significance is that it formed the Confederate states of America

    South attacked Fort Sumter before Union ships could supply it. South's attack on it started the civil war. It's significance is it allowed the onfederates to create a hole in the union
  • Battle of Bull Run/ Manassas

    Battle of Bull Run/ Manassas

    It was the first conflict after the election. The North invaded Virginia and take the confederate capital. They win the battle. The significance was people were suprised they won because people thought they were going to win but they proved them wrong.
  • Battle of Antietam

    Battle of Antietam

    The union forces and confederate forces fought. The North won. It was the single bloodiest day in all of American History. The significance is it was the first major win for the North, and Lincoln saw a chance to capitalize on the victory and issues the Emancipation Proclamation.
  • Emancipation Proclimation

    Emancipation Proclimation

    After alomst two years of war Lincoln passes the Emancipation Proclimation. It only freed slaves in the Confederate States. The significance is the African Americans would be willing to fight in the war after that.

    McLellan was replaced by General Burnside after loss at Antietam. Burnside attacks and tries to take Richmond. The significance is the Confederates win, and it's the last time the

    23,000 died in the Union team, and 28,000 die in the Confederate troops. Union wins. The signifigance is it's the last time Lee and the Confederacy ever invade the North.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    Battle of Vicksburg

    Vicksburg was the last stronghold of the Confederates on the Mississippi River. Ulysses S. Grant had defeated the confederates at Vicksburg. The significance is the Union had complete control of the Mississippi River and could split up the South.

    Gettysburg Adress

    Lincoln came to Gettysburg to speak at dedication of cemetery for 3,500 soliders buried there. Lincoln did it to try and get people together. It's significance is it's one of the most famous speeches of all time (272 words, less than 2 minutes long).

    Sherman started a war that was not only against enermy troops, but against anything that supports the enemy. From atlanta to the sea he cut a path of destruction of 60 to 300 miles.

    13th Amendment Passed

    13th Amendment passed. It abolished slavery, prohibited involuntary servitude, nullifided the fugitive slave act and the 3/5th compromise. The significance is Salvery ended
  • Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

    Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

    Lee and Grant met in a small town in Virginia called Appomattox Court House where Lee eventually surendered. The surrender ended the Civil War. The significance is the officers got no jail time including Lee, and they were allowed to keep horses and weapons
