Battle of Galveston
President Lincoln ordered a blockade of Southern ports to prevent supplies from reaching the Southern army. Since Galveston was such a big port, the Union captured the island. Confederate general John B. Magruder launched an attack to retake the island. Confederate forces retook the island and kept it until the end of the Civil War. -
