the election was the election that got Abraham Lincon into the presidency. South Carolina was mad because the south did not vote for him and so they left the union.the south was mad because they didn't vote for him and they all ended up leaving the union. -
South Carolina becomes the first state to leave the union. the north started to get worried because they didn't think they were actually going to leave. after this, the southern states start to leave one by one. -
the attack on Fort Sumter was like the thing that made the north snap and goes into war.it was the first attack the south did and the north was mad. so it was significant because it was the attack that leads to the war. -
the goal for this battle was to take control of the capital of the confederate. they did this because they wanted to speed things up because the anaconda plan wasn't working.it was important because it was changed the way the union saw the war because the confederates won. -
In this battle, it took a while because no one gained ground by nightfall. general lee was forced back into Virginia and McClellan could have followed lee and killed him but he didn´t. after this Abraham Lincon fired him. It was also the first big win for the north. -
In this battle, the new general burnside took over. he tried to attack Richmond and take it over but the confederates have the high ground and they can´t do anything. This battle ends up in the confederate hands. -
throughout the war, lincoln wanted hesitant to free slaves. he believed that he didn´t have to power to do so. but the victory at Antietam was the perfect time to do so. -
this was the last battle that needed to happen for the anaconda plan to work. this victory opened up the deep south for the union. and this got the anaconda plan up and running. -
For three days they fought on rocky hills and fields. This time the union had the high ground. the union killed 1/3of lee´s army and the confederates had to retreat. this was the last time lee ever invaded the north for the rest of the war. -
