  • Election of 1860

    Abe Lincoln won Presidency which was one of the events that started the Civil War
  • South Carolina secedes from the Union

    South Carolina along with 10 other states secede from the union.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    This battle was fought out in Southwestern Tennessee outside of a church in the vicinity of a place called Shiloh which also means "Place of Peace"
  • Shots fired at Ft. Sumter

    This was very significant because it was the first fight between the North and the South that finally started the real war.
  • Battle of Bull Run

    It was one of the first major battles of the Civil War.
  • Monitor v Merrimack

    The first clash between Ironclad Ships, this was a big advancement because they no longer used wooden boats/ships.
  • Battle of Antietam

    A battle of the civil war, between General Lee and George McClellan.
    This was important because it was called the bloodiest day and had a ton of casualties.
  • Lincoln issues Emancipation Proclamation

    This was important because now it announced that slavery would be banned in the U.S.
  • Battles of Gettysburg and Vicksburg

    This was very significant and was considered the turning point of the Civil War. All of the deaths/injuries from this battle include 7,058 were fatalities (3,155 Union, 3,903 Confederate). Another 33,264 had been wounded (14,529 Union, 18,735 Confederate) and 10,790 were missing (5,365 Union, 5,425 Confederate).
  • Lincoln delivers the Gettysburg Address

    Lincoln delivers a speech that has been the most famous speech in America, he assured Americans that they were fighting for national regeneration, although it was only for the ceremony. this Speech remade America.
  • Ft Pillow massacre

    This was significant because the union got defeated by the confederates. Also there were tons of black soldiers that fought in this battle along side the union. tons of them died though.
  • Sherman’s March to the Sea

    Grant had burned many things along his path with all of his men marching through the state of Georgia and freeing slaves along the way.
  • General Lee surrenders at Appomattox Courthouse

    General Lee surrenders his army in the hopes of less casualties.
