On November 6th, 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected as President of the United States. -
Secession of South Carolina
South Carolina seceds from the states due to Abe Lincoln becoming president. Aberaham wanted to do away with slaves, but South Carolina was to into their slave culture. Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas follow the lead of SC and form the Confederate States. -
Jefferson Davis forms with the Confederate States
Jefferson Davis joined the confederate states to become their president. -
Lincoln is sworn into office
On March 4th, 1861, Abraham Lincoln is sworn into office. -
Fort Sumter is Attacked
On April 12th, 1861, Fort Sumter is attacked by the confederates led by Pierre Beauregard. This attack piled up mass casualties as the beginning of the Civil War. -
Lincoln issues a proclamation
Lincoln issues a proclamation for 75,000 militia men, and summoning congress on the Fourth of July. -
More Secessions
While all of the chaos is happening with Fort Sumter, Virginia decides to secede from the Union, adding one more state to the Confederacy. -
Battle of Bull Run
The Union Army suffers a loss under the command of Irvin McDowell at Bull Run to the Confederates, under command of "Stonewall" Jackson. -
McClellan takes over
After Bull Run, Lincoln replaces McDowell with George B. McClellan as the Commander. -
Ulysses S. Grant
Gets a victory in Tennessee capturing Fort Henry and Fort Donelson just 10 days later. He then earns the nickname "Unconditional Surrender" Grant. -
The first Ironclad ships
The new confederate ship, The Merrimac, was the first Ironclad ship to be made, and completely destroyed two Union ships. -
Battle of Shiloh
The Confederate army surprise attacks U.S. Grant's unprepaired troops at Shiloh on the Tennessee River, resulting in the death of 13,000 Union soldiers, and 10,000 Confederate soldiers. -
Robert E. Lee comes into battle
Robert E. Lee comes into command, replacing the badly injured Johnston. Lee then renames his army "The Army of Northern Virginia" -

Seven Days Battle
During the Seven Days Battle, Lee was attacking McClellan near Richmond, but this resulted in a heavy loss between the two armies. McClellan then falls back towards Washington. -
Second Battle of Bull Run
General John Pope was commanding 75,000 troops for the Union army, but was defeated by 55,000 confederate troops under the command of General Stonewall Jackson and General James Longstreet. -
Antietam
This was the bloodiest war in United States History. Robert E. Lee's army and McClellan's army met at Antietam. At the end of the war, there was over 26,000 men dead. -
Pre Emancipation
Lincoln presents the preliminary Emancipation proclimation that would free slaves. -
Battle of Fredericksburg
Army of the Potomac under General Burnside (recently replaced McClellan) suffers a loss, and loses over 12,000 men. -
The Great Emancipator
Lincoln releases the final Emancipation Proclimation freeing the slaves in the states held by the Confederates.The war is now about slavery. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The tides start turning against the south as they are defeated in the Battle of Gettysburg. -
Lee Surrenders
After over 4 years of bloodshed and war, Lee surrenders in the Appomattox Court House in Virginia.
