Confederate president, Jefferson Davis, heard that the union was moving towards Richmond, so he burned documents and weapons and finally fled the city. Lincoln and his son toured burning Richmond. African Americans followed Lincoln everywhere where at his feet "worshipping him".Surrender at Appomattox. After the fall of Richmond lee and Davis retreated. Lee continued to fight untill the end.
