  • Fort Sumter

    Fort Sumter, in the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina, was running out of supplies, but if Lincoln resupplied them he risked war, if he told the troups to leave he was giving in to the rebals. Lincol informed South Carolina he was sending them supplies. The Confederates decided to attack before the supply ship got there. at 4:30 A.M. shore guns opened fire on the fort for 34 hours before anderson surrendered.
  • 1st Battle of Bull Run

    Battle occoured in Manassas, Virginia. The Confederates were led by Pierre Beaurgard and the Union by Irvin McDowell. The Confederates won which ledtheir army to reorganization. Afterwords Lincoln called for a 500,000 volunteer army.
  • Battle of Hampton Roads

    -March 9, 1862. On the waters of Hampton roads anironclad (Virginia), ships made entirely of iron, charged the Union Blockade fleet. On the 9th Monitor, a Union ironclad, Attacked Virginia.They fought and fought, but Virginia eventually retired. The Union lost 4 warships and 433 soldiers, The Confederates lost 24 soldiers.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    -April 7 1862. The battle occoured in Pittsburg, Tennessee. the
    Confederates were led by Albert S. Johnston and the Union by Ulysses S. Grant. The Union won this battle claiming the tennessee River along with taking Johnstons life.
  • Battle of Chancellorsville

    -May 4 1862. This battle occoured in Chancellorsville, Virginia. The Confederates were led by Robert E. Lee and the Union by Joseph Hooker. The Confederates won, but Lee's right hand man "stonewall" Jackson was confused as a Union soldier and shot down when returning from his scouting mission. Lee soundly beat the Union force that outnunmbered him 2:1.
  • 2nd Battle of Bull Run

    • Aug. 30, 1862. Battle ocoured in Manassas, Virginia. The Confederates were led by Thomas "stonewall" Jackson and the Union by John Pope. The confederates won which helped them gain back control of most of Virginia.
  • Battle of antietam

    Battle occoured in Neral Sharpsburg, Maryland. The Confederates were led by Robert E. Lee and the Union By George McCellan. This battle was a military draw, but it was a political victory for the Union because it led to the Emancipation Proclamation.
  • The Battle of Fredericksburg

    This battle occoured in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The Confederate comander is Robert E. Lee and the Union by Ambrose Burnside. The Confederates won, stopping the final Union Advance on the Confederacy of 1862.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    The Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Lincoln to free all slaves in the Confederacyte territory. Not many slaves were freed because Union soldiers were too far from them to enforce the proclamation. Critics charged Lincoln. wondering why he didnt free slaves in the whole country. Lincoln didnt have that power, freeing slaves in confederate territory was considered an act of war which was in his power.
  • Siege of Vicksburg

    -July 4, 1863. This battle occoured at Vicksburg, Mississippi. The Confederate commander was John C. Pemberton and the Union commander was Ulysses S. Grant. The Union won, giving them control of the Mississippi River. Turning point in war because it split the Confederacy in two. Britain gave up all thought of helping the Confederacy in the war.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    -July 3, 1863. This battle occoured in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Confederates were led by Robert E. Lee and the Union by George Meade. The Union won and the Confederacy would never invade the Union again. Meade was also fired after this battle for not pursuing Lee's army and ending the war.
  • Siege of Atlanta

    -sept 2, 1864. This battle occoured in Atlanta, Georgia. The Confederates were led by John Bell Hood and the Union by William Tecumseh Sherman. The Union won giving the Union a taste of victory convencing everyone to reelect Lincoln.
  • Ratification of the 13th Amendment

    Lincoln pushed congress yet again to abolish slavery in all the land. Congress then agreed to try and get the 13th amendment ratified. The 13th amendment states that slavery is banned in the entire United States of America. The 13th Amendment was ratified by 27 states, including eight southern states.
  • Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

    Lee fled west while Grant followed in pursuit. Lee wanted to keep fighting, but in his situation he couldnt. Grant received a letter from Lee saying that he was ready for surrender. Grant and Lee met in the virginia town of Appomattox Court House to arrange the surrender. Grant gave generous terms to the Confederacy: The Confederates could go home in peace taking their private possessions and horses with them. Grant gave food to the hungry Confederate soldiers as well.
  • Assassination of Abraham incoln

    Five days after Lee's surrender at appomattox Lincoln and his wife went to see a play, Our American Cousin, at Ford's Theatre. at exactly 10:15PM John wilkes booth snuck into the presidents booth, fought off Lincolns body gaurd, John Parker, and shot Lincoln in the back of the head. Booth jumped to the stage 11 feet below and broke his fibula bone just above the ankle. Booth made it to his horse and escaped the city using the Navy Yard Bridge. This was done to weaken the North.
