The commander for the Union was Robert Anderson and for the south it was P.G.T. Beauregard. On April 10, 1861, Brig. Gen. Beauregard demanded the surrender of the Union garrison of Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor. Garrison commander Anderson refused. he surrendered on the 13th.

    First bull runThe location was on Fairfox county. It is also called Mamassas. The victor of this battle was the Confederates. The commander for the Union was Irvin Mcdowell. For the confedaerte it was "stonewall" Jackson and General Beauregard.On the 21st, McDowell crossed at Sudley Ford and attacked the Confederate left flank on Matthews Hill. Late in the afternoon, Confederate reinforcements extended and broke the Union right flank. This was part of the Manassas campaign.

A commander for the Union was John Worden and for the confederates it was Franklin Buchanan and Lt. Catesby R. Jones. On March 8, 1862 the Confederate ironclad Virginia steamed into Hampton Roads. On March 9, the Union ironclad Monitor having fortuitously arrived to do battle, initiated the first engagement of ironclads in history.

For the confederates it is General P.G.T. Beauregard. Confederate forces led by General Johnston attacked Union General Grant's army at Pittsburg Landing. The Union forces were not prepared but they still managed to hold.

For confederates it was Gen. Robert E. Lee and Maj. Gen. Thomas J. Jackson. Jackson ordered an attack on a Federal column that was passing across his front on the Warrenton Turnpike on August 28. On August 29, Pope launched a series of assaults against Jackson’s position along an unfinished railroad grade.

The Battle of Antietam forced the Confederate Army to retreat back across the Potomac River. President Lincoln saw the significance of this and issued the famous Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862.

On December 15, Burnside called off the offensive and recrossed the river, ending the campaign. Estimated Casualties: 17,929 total.

    was issued by the President of the United States. On the 1st day of January, 1863, all persons held as slaves within any State that is rebelling to the United Staes may be foreever free. Abe says "I hereby enjoin upon the people so declared to be free to abstain from all violence." The battle of Antietam is what made Abe Lincoln decide to make this.

The Amry of Vicksburg commander was John C. Pemberton. On July 4, Vicksburg surrendered after prolonged siege operations. It was a Union victory.

The 95,000-strong Federal Army of the Potomac, under General Hooker, was initially uncertain of Lee's intentions.

Sherman and for the confederates it was General Joseph E. Johnston. Union General William T. Sherman kicked off the massive Atlanta campaign from Chattanooga Tennessee on May 5, 1864. This was made to end the war. Johnston began one of the great retreats in history.

The 13th amendment was passed at the end of the Civil War before the Southern states had been restored to the Union and should have easily passed the Congress. With the 13th amendment, the United States found a final solution to the issue of slavery.

    Assassination of abeHe was in Ford's theater.The assassin, John Wilkes Booth, dropped the pistol and waved a dagger. Booth leapt from the balcony and caught the spur of his left boot on a flag draped over the rail, and shattered a bone in his leg on landing. Though injured, he rushed out the back door, and disappeared into the night on horseback. The bullet had entered through Lincoln's left ear and lodged behind his right eye.Nine hours later, at 7:22 AM on April 15th, Lincoln died.
