    Election of 1860, Lincoln wins.
    The United States presidential election was the 19th quadrennial. Election was held on November 6, 1860. The election itself was a caues of the Civil War ( because Lincoln won and that made the South angry and worried that their rights would be taken away i.e the rights to own slaves. ) Slavery expansions and questions had started dividing the nation in the 1850's. These issues broke the Democratic Party into Northern and Southren faction and allowed the Republican Party to dominate the North.
  • South Carolina Secceds!

    South Carolina Secceds!
    South Carolina secceds from the Union. This sparked other Southern states to leave the Union as time progressed. Within three months of Lincolns, seven states had secceded from the Union. More states followed after the Battle of Fort Sumnter.
  • The Emancapation Proclamation

    The Emancapation Proclamation
    Lincoln issued the Emancapation Proclamation when the nation entered its third bloody year in the Civil War. The Proclamtion declared all slaves. Even though the wording was expansive, it was limited in many ways. Slaves were only free in Confederate states ( leaving slavery untouched in Northern states ) and it demanded the North to win for Proclamation to take affect. It did however allow blacks to fight for their freedom, a total of 200,000 black soldiers and sailors fough in the Civil War
  • Battle of Gettysburgh

    Confederate General Robert E Lee concentrated his army around Gettysburgh, Pennsylvania when Union General George G Meades forces approached Gettysburgh. On July 1st, 1863, Confederates drove back Union defenders to Cementary Hill.
  • The Battle of Crater

    The Battle of Crater
    Union soldiers blew up a mine, leaving a gap in Confederate defenses.
  • Surrender at Bennits Place

    Surrender at Bennits Place
    Confederate General Joseph E Johnson and Union Gen William T Sherman met under a flag of truce to negotiate peace. Johnston surrendered all of NC, Florida and Georgia forces ( taking them out of war ).
