  • Beginning of the civil war

    The attack on Fort Sumter that lasted a thirty four hours and resulted in a confederate victory. This is considered the start of the civil war and it was the attack on Fort Sumpter in South Carolina with the Confederates making the first attack. The attack on Fort Sumter that lasted a thirty four hours and resulted in a confederate victory. Even after thirty four long hours of fighting there were no human casualties.
  • Battle of first bull run

    This battle was fought outside of Washington D.C. on July 7th, 1861 by the river know as Bull Run. This battle started out with the Union pushing the Confederate army back but confederate general nicknamed “stonewall” Jackson sat tall and proud in the middle of all the fighting, which began to rally his frightened troops. With the Confederate army begging to rally they destroyed a Union flank and left the Union army running for their lives and the battle ended in a Confederate victory.
  • Battle of the Ironclads

    This battle changed navel warfare forever. to this point when Confederate ship the C.S.S.Virginia fired and sunk wooden Union ships before facing off against the Unions first ironclad ship called the U.S.S.Monitor. After about four long hours of both sides fighting back and forth the battle ended up in a draw.
  • Freedmen’s Bureau

    After slavery was abolished there were tons of African Americans who were now free, but had no where to go and they didn’t know what to do. Then the Friedman’s Bureau was passed, which gave newly freed African Americans and displaced southerns shelter, water, food, and clothing, medical service, and land while they were transitioning from slave to free. Even though slavers were free there was a lot of hate towards these people, so the southerns were able to terminate the Bureau in July of 1872.
  • Lincoln’s death

    On the fateful day of April 14th, 1865, president Abraham Lincoln attended a play at Ford’s theatre in Washington D.C., but little did he know that John Wilkes Booth was waiting for him. A short while after Lincoln sat down he got shot by John Wilkes Booth. After he got shot everyone was in a panic as doctors who were at the theater rushed him across the street where they did everything they could to save him, but on the morning of April 15th, 1865 Abraham Lincoln was pronounced dead.
  • Ratification of the 13th Amendmendment

    While this amendment got passed on April 8th, 1864, it wasn’t until late 1865 until it was ratified by the States, but after a long while on December 6th, 1865 the 13th Amendment was officially ratified. On January 31st 1865 The House of Representatives held a vote and the amendment won the majority. When the 13th Amendment was ratified it abolished slavery in the United States for good and thus starting a new era for African Americans across the country.
