The battle of Bull Run in Virginia was a significant battle for the CSA because the union was winning the battle until Thomas Jackson and his Virginians made a stand making the battle a Confederate win. Also giving Thomas Jackson the nickname Stonewall Jackson, for his firm stand.

Naval blockade to capture New Orleans, the union fighting with Monitor and the CSA fighting with the Merrimack. Because of the industrial revolution just starting both ships were made of metal and neither did much damage, but after that battle the metal ships changed all navies for the better by changing from wooden ships to metal ships.
