Kennedy created this with Eleanor Roosevelt as its chairperson. IT was created to further investigate the lives of American women. The reports showed that women faced discrimination in the work place.

Female workers received additional assistant for government. Upon debating protection of AA civil rights, Howard Smith, proposed adding a bull to protect womens. The act outlawed sexual discrimination and created the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

A group of women attending a conference on women's status met in Betty Friedan's hotel room. They created a resolution condemning the EEOC but it was rejected. THe women then formed NOW, which tried to influence elected officials; to ensure social and economic equality for women.

Gloria Steinem was a women interested in civil rights and political activism. She began to write feminist articles. She formed the National Women's Political Caucus to encourage women to run for political office. Steinem founded other organizations such as Coalitions of Labor Union Women and Women Against Pornography.
