  • Scott v. Sanford

    Dred Scott was with Mr. Sanford, his master, out of state. When his master died during the trip, he was given his freedom because he was in a free state. Mrs. Sanford wanted Dred back but he said no because he was free. The Supreme Court said that because of the 5th amendment, property must return their owner.

  • Plessy v. Ferg

    Black person went into a white only train car and was arrested. Pleaded that he was not protected by the EPC. Court said that because they are SEPARATE but equal it passes the EPC
  • 19th Amendment

    Everyone can vote regardless of gender/sex

    Scottsboro Boys

    9 men were accused of raping two women. They were not given due process and in total had 4 trials. In the end, all nine men were pardoned for their crimes.
  • George Stinney case

    A 13 year old black boy was accused of killing to white girls and was not given due process at all. He Is the youngest person ever to die from the Death Penalty
  • Brown v. Board

    The Supreme Court ruled that public schools are not allowed to be segregated.
  • Civil rights Act of 1964

    The act declares that segregation is illegal based on age, race, religion and gender and that if you go against this you will lose government funding.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    Discrimination is outlawed before is occurs.
    Localities must get prior approval from the federal govt. before changing a voting law.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1968

    This act declares that you can not segregate neighborhoods.
    Red lining is also illegal
