  • The Civil Rights Act of 1866

    Act passed by Congress over President Johnson's veto. Act states that all persons born in the United States are now citizens.
  • 14th Amendment

    Requires due process and equal protection.
  • 15th Amendment

    Male citizens of the United States of America were guaranteed the rights to vote regardless of race.
  • Supreme Court

    Civil Rights act of 1875 ruled unconstitutional.
  • Plessy v Ferguson

    SEPERATE BUT EQUAL FACILITIES. This case occured after Plessy bought a first class ticket in a WHITE ONLY car.
  • Woodrow Wilson orders re-segregation of federal workplaces

  • Supreme Court ruled against grandfather clauses used to deny blacks the right to vote

  • Morgan v Virginia

    US Supreme Court invalidates provisions of the Virginia Code which require the separation of white and coloroed passengers where applied to interstate bus transit.
  • President Truman issued Executive Order 9981 ordering the end of racial discrimination in the Armed Forces.

  • Briggs v Elliott

    one of the 5 cases combined to make Brown v Board of Education. This case challegened segregation in Summerton, South Carolina. After a hollow victory, South Carolina later awarded Eliza Briggs its highest civilian honor, the Order of the Palmetto.
  • BROWN V BOARD OF EDUCATION

    The Supreme Court ruled against the seperate but equal doctrine in Brown v Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas and in Bolling v Sharpe. These rulings overturned Plessy v Ferguson.
  • Governors Block integration of schools

    Georgia, Mississipppi, South Carolina and Virgina agreed to block integration of schools.........
  • CRA of 1957

    The Civil Rights Act of 1957 was signed by President Eisenhower on September 27, 1957.
  • SIT-INS

    Sit-ins began in Nashville, Tennessee and ended successfully in May.
  • CRA of 1960

    Civil Rights Act of 1960 was signed by Eisenhower.
  • Segregated Transportion

    Segregated transist facilities both Interstate and Intrastate were ruled unconstitutional by U.S. Supreme Court.
  • CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 1964

    The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed on this day and it badded discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin in employment or public accomodations.
  • MLK Shot

    Dr, Martin Luther King was shot and killed by James Earl Ray. This shooting happened in Memphis, Tennessee.
