New Years Eve,Leningrad
Lev (the main character) see's dead Nazi pilot falling from the sky; gets arrested for looting; thrown in prison with a handsom deserter named Kolya; building where he lived was destroyed by Nazi mortars. -
Assignment and the Cannibals
Lev and Kolya were ordered to get a dozen eggs or starve to death; they were lured into a cannibals home under the premise of receiving eggs. -
Rooster day
They spent the entire day trying to follow up on a rumor that there was an old man who lived with a group of chickens. They go there and the only bird left was young and was later found out to be a rooster. -
The Cabin in the Woods
After walking for a day in the wrong direction they come across a house with several women who have been held captive by Germans for about a year after their town was attacked. They wait for the Germans in the house and right before they enter they are shot to death by Russian snipers looking for a man who was not there. -
Capture
After walking towards the Germans for almost a day they cause a distraction and mix in with the prisoners. -
Chess day
After moving with the German convoy for another day they play a game of chess with the high ranking German officer, their lives for a dozen eggs. They win and kill a good amount of Germans by taking them by surprise, then run away with a dozen eggs. -
Due day
Having gotten the dozen eggs they run back to Leningrad with the things they took from the Germans and they get shot at on their way in. Koyla is injured on the way and Lev has to deliver the eggs by himself only to find out that the Colonel didn't need them because he had plenty of eggs for his daughters wedding cake.
