    The catholic church began in Australia with the arrival the First Fleet 1788. Of the 1044 convicts who arrived 316 were Catholics. The first Australian Mass was held was held on May 15th 1803 by Fr Dixon. In 1820 Farther John Therry and Farther Philip Conolly arrived as the first offical priests to minister to the Catholics in the colony.
