    KMT partisans and their temporary allies (urban gangsters and local warlords and militias) killed thousands of CCP soldiers and civilian partisans in Shanghai. This is the event considered to be the trigger for the Civil War.

    Nanchang revolt by troops of partisans to the CCP
    Those troops will become the first members of the Red Army (now referred to as the « Popular Army of Liberation ». The characters next to the flag’s star respectively mean « 8 » and « 1 » in mandarin, representation of the date of when the Army was officially founded.

    The Long March

    The Red Army had to escape the KMT’s army, the National Army (led by Generalissimo Chang Kai-shek), as they were encircled by the latter in Jiangxi. Their journey would last for over 370 days and the troops would walk over 9000 kilometers. This event made Mao Zedong popular and idolized by his followers.
