    Even though Chris was born in California, he spent the majority of his of his childhood in Annandale. He was raised by his abusive father. His mother, Billy, couldn’t do anything because she was just a puppet to Walt, his father. Chris learns here that he wants to get away from his parents. The only one he can trust is his sister.

    Chris started at this school in 1986 then finished in 1990. The last time the parents saw him was at his college graduation. A little bit after he donated $25,000 of his savings to charity. His parents went to his apartment to see that Chris abandoned it. Chris had started his journey going into the wild. Chris learns that he can do anything he wants with his life.

    Chris’s first major landmark was out west in Dallas Texas. This is where Chris got his money stolen. He burned the rest of the cash he had on him. Then he went on the journey all by himself. Chris learns he doesn’t need material possessions to get by.
  • Detrital Wash, Arizona

    Detrital Wash, Arizona
    This is where Chris’s car was found after being stuck in a flash flood. Chris just left it there with some of his belongings. From this point on he hitchhiked. Chris learns he doesn’t need an automobile on this journey. He just needs himself.
  • Lake Tahoe, California

    Chris hitchhikes to California. An old hippie couple offers him a ride. He accepts and they give him food and shelter. Chris learns he might actually need some help on this journey. It will be a long one.
  • Cut Bank, Montana

    Cut Bank, Montana
    Chris comes upon a man named Wayne Westerberg. He offers him a ride, which Chris accepts. Then he offered Chris a job, which Chris declines. Chris learns to not always take free handouts in life.
  • Fairbanks, Alaska

    Fairbanks, Alaska
    Chris finally made his way to Alaska. He picks up a book studying edible plants and wildlife in Alaska. He also buys a used gun. He learns that his dreams can come true when he finally makes it.
  • Stampede Trail

    Last person to see Chris was a guy by the name of Jim. Chris spent his last five months in the bus. He became very ill and died of starvation. He learned to accept death. He was happy he got to accomplish what he really desired in life. True freedom.
