    Stage 1-Infant

    Newborns responds to sounds and faces around them, not particularly words. Some newborns are identified early on due to physical factors, eg. premature baby, poor response, or even some physical deformity.
  • Period: to

    Stage 2, three months

    The baby responds to the voices of caregivers around him/her and some words. When a child is unable to respond to voices, then we can assume that there is something wrong.
  • Stage 3, eigth months

    The baby starts to gesture and make sounds like words, to indicate what he/she needs. Similar words like 'Wa' for 'water' or gesturing to his/her mouth indicating that they are hungry and needs to be fed..
  • Stage 4, twelve months

    The baby speaks the first words, which they were unable to do prior because they were not using words, but were gesturing to carry out their message. For example: 'mama', 'dada'
  • Stage 5: eighteen months

    The baby starts to speak some words in a group, for example: 'mama come', 'baba milk'
  • Stage 6: Two years

    A toddler imitates the adults around them, parents, caretakers, etc. "I want Teddy", "Dada sleepy"etc. Such group of words that show their language development and this will tell us that the toddler is hearing the words around them, they are imititating them.
  • Stage 7: Three years

    Three years is preschool age and they children can speak a number of sentences to convey their messages. "Josie let's play outside", "It is raining", etc.
  • Stage 8: Four years

    Four years old are imitating their classmates because they are attending school and they are trying to adjust to their surroundings. "I love ice cream", "Let us play hide and seek"
  • Stage 9: Five years

    A five year old is fluent in their speech and can talk nonstop. The children who are silent are the ones which have difficulty emulating themselves and we need to be aware of this.
  • Stage 10: Six years

    By six years of age a child can read and write. Visual mode communication is transferred to writing and reading.
  • Stage 11: Adolescence

    When children turn to be adolescents they have mastered their speech and are able to do multiple things along with talking. They can sing, write, drama, etc.
  • Stage 12: Adults

    By the time a child turns to eighteen years of age they are able to think and analyze everything
