Us congress debated over legeslation on weather illegal immigrants should be criminalized and lationo rights groups protested the legeslation and it was later shot down.

Continuing the fight today
Many latinos who either immigrate or are born in the US fight in the military in hopes that when they return the will have the chance to get American citizenship and gain respect. Also they are currently fighting to stop the immediate deportation of legal immigrants who have commited crimes in the US.
