Charles Darwin was born in 1809 in Shrewsbury, England. He grew up closest to his father. His childhood was short lived when Darwin’s father pushed Darwin into the medical field, enrolling him into a University at 14, hoping Darwin would find a passion for it like he did. Charles Darwin: 2/12/1809 - 4/19/1882
Darwin enrolled in medical school at the University of Edinburgh. Surgeries during this time were performed without the use of anaesthetic or antiseptics and deaths were common. While in school, Darwin witnessed a surgery on a child that left his so traumatized that he decided to give up on his at that school. On the Origin of Species was published. This best-selling book, of its time, is where Darwin made debut of his thoughts about evolution and natural selection. The book provoked a major uproar, as it contradicted the Church of England’s belief in divine creation.
