  • Charles Darwin was born

    Charles Robert Darwin was born in Shrewsbury Shropshire on February 12 1809. At his family home and was the fifth of six children of wealthy society doctor and financer Robert Darwin and Susannah Darwin. Darwin was heavily influenced by his well known grandfather Erasmus Darwin.

    The voyage of Charles Darwin

    Charles Darwin set sail on the beagle to begin his voyage. The HMS beagle is a survey boat and was planned to travel for 2 years but ended up traveling for years instead. On the voyage he was the naturalist, It was his job to observe and collect specimens of plants, animals, rocks, and fossils.

    After the return of Darwin's voyage he became a member of the Geological Society of London. Later he became the secretary of the royal geological society. A roll in which he initially declined but after Whewell successfully persuaded him. He served as the secretary for 3 years.

    on November 24 1859, Darwin published his book "The Origin of Species" which was known as the foundation of evolutionary biology. In this book Darwin introduced his scientific theory that populations evolve over the course of generations through a process of natural selection.

    Following Darwin's theory of natural selection . He begins getting mixed reviews from the public. Darwin was attacked by church authorities with the argument that miracles broke gods law so belief in them was atheistic. Christian churches were long hostile to Darwin because his theory conflicted with the literal biblical account of creation. They felt as if Darwin owed in apology for his ideas. The church feared that Darwin's theory of evolution would bring an end to Christianity.

    on April 19 182 Charles Darwin Died at Down House. At the request of Darwin's colleagues The president of the royal society have arranged for Darwin to be honoured by burial in Westminster Abbey, close to john Herschel and Isaac Newton. The funeral was held on Wednesday 26 April.
