Charles Darwin was born on February 12, 1809 in Shrewsbury, England. As a child, Darwin was fascinated by the way of the world. He loved to read and spent a large amount of his free time exploring and collecting plants and insects. He died in London on April 19, 1882. -
Charles Darwins discovery of natural selection
On December 27, 1831, Charles Darwin set sail on the Beagle, an event that took place over the next five years of his life. This event changed the trajectory of scientific thinking. Darwin had the opportunity to explore unseen areas of the world and identified that the world was different than what he had known and been taught. This journey and his findings are now what we know as the theory of natural selection. -
Charles Darwin's Contribution to Evolution
Charles Darwin made major contributions in evolutionary biology, the philosophy of science and the modern zeitgeist. His theory of evolution had three main ideas: that variation occurred randomly among members of a species, that an individual's traits could be inherited from its descendent, and that because of the struggle of existence, only the ones with the strongest and most favorable traits could survive. -
