    Charles Darwin was born at The Mount House, Shrewsbury, United Kingdom
  • Medical School

    At the young age of sixteen Charles Darwin became a medical student at the University of Edinburgh. Charles did not care too much for medical school due to the fact that dissecting human bodies was disgusting and caused him great distress. His father withdrew Charles from Edinburgh and sent him off to Cambridge. After three years he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He continued to pursue education in botany and zoology.

    In 1831 Darwin went on a British Royal Navy ship as a Naturalist. They stopped in many places to include the Galapagos Islands noting all the unique species. He discovered the South American continent is rising from the ocean. He discovered 12 new finch species.

    Darwin started keeping a notebook. He accepted that species could evolve, or “transmute”. He noticed that breeders breed only the best animals, and that the best survive and reproduce which is known as natural selection.
