  • Voyage on the HMS Beagle

    Darwin boarded the HMS Beagle and voyaged all over the world. During this time, he collected a variety of natural specimens to study such as fossils and plants. He also conducted a variety of experiments which contributed to findings about botany, geology, and zoology that helped form his later works.

  • Journal of Researches

    After returning to from his voyage on the HMS Beagle, Darwin published "Journal of Researches." In 1845, he published the second edition, in which he explains he wanted to make some corrections to the previous edition, as well as provide a brief history of the voyage from Cape Verde to Keeling Island, and provide the readers with sketches of his observations.   • On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection

    After years of study, Darwin released this literary work which revealed his theory of evolution, in which species that evolved and adapted to their environment thrived, and those that could not adapt died off.   • The Descent of Man

    In this literary work, Charles applies his theory of evolution to humans and elaborates on humans and sexual selection. The purpose: to consider if man, like all other species, evolved from a pre-existing form, and how sexual selection has to do with the races of man.
