The HMS Beagle's voyage lasted about five years. On the voyage, Darwin spent most of his time on land studying plants, animals, fossils and geological formations. During this time Charles Darwin discovered many important findings such as large fossils of extinct mammals. Charles Darwin findings and work throughout this voyage made him a well-known geologist. First Landing of H.M.S Voyage
Darwin's first landing was on a tropical shore at St Jago, Cape Verde Islands. On this first landing, Darwin begins to use his field journals. -
The Mystery of the Formation of Coral Reefs and Atoll
During the H.M.S Beagles Voyage, Darwin discovered seashells forty feet above sea level. He theorized that this could be explained by uplift and substance of vast areas of the Earth's crust under the oceans. Galapagos Archipelago
During the 5 weeks at the Galapagos Islands, Darwin came across many unique animal species. On the 13 major islands he found 14 different kinds of finches. The finch is to be considered as the fastest- evolving vertebrates. They can quickly adapt to their surrounding environment. From the lengths of their talons and they size of their beaks. Darwin's book The Origin of Species published in 1859, received a lot of back lash and ridicule of the idea that humans descended form monkeys even though Darwin never mentions this in his book. -
