  • The Voyage of the Beagle 1831-1836

Charles Darwin took a 5 year journey down the coast of South America. During this trip he spent a lot of time on land studying flora and fauna. Darwin found fossils of extinct animals that looked very similar to animals still in existence. He was sure these animals once roamed the earth. Years after the trip he dedicated his time to write a book called The Voyage of The Beagle where he documents his findings during the voyage.

  • The Origin of Species

    The Origin of Species
Charles Darwin had a theory that species had a common ancestor that changed over time. Survival and adaptation traits were passed down generations keep the species alive. This caused each one to look slightly different than the last. 20 years after his voyage The Origin of Species was published and his work led the way for evolutionary biology. Darwin, Charles. On the Origin of Species By Means of Natural Selection. The Floating Press, 2009.
  • Sexual Selection

    Sexual Selection
From his work on Natural Selection came The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex. This book theorized human evolution with apes as our common ancestor. It also brought forth the concept sexual selection, which is the manner in which species compete to be chosen as a mating partner. A prime example of this was the plumage of the peacocks. Females prefer males with large bright feathers.
