Charles Darwin was born on February 12, 1809 in Shrewsbury, England. Darwin was born into a wealthy family and hails from a long line of scientists.
Darwin's father was a medical doctor, and his grandfather, a well-known botanist. -
At the age of 16, Darwin begins school at Christs College at Cambridge University. His original intent was to follow in his father's footsteps, and study to become a medical doctor. However, he discovered that he could not handle the sight of human blood and changed his course of study to Natural History.

Charles Darwin graduated with a Bachelors in Arts from Christs College at Cambridge in the year 1831. His mentor for the duration of his time at college, John Stevens Winslow suggests that he take a position as a naturalist and accompany a vessel (the HS Beagle) on a 5-year survey voyage.
